Infinity vs. bexio: the best accounting software for Switzerland compared (2026)

bexio brought accounting to the cloud 15 years ago and is now the market leader among SMEs. Infinity is the new challenger, rethinking how accounting works from the ground up with an AI-first approach. In this comparison, we show you which software suits your business better. Updated with the latest findings, real user feedback and bexio's steep price increase as of March 2026.

1. Artificial intelligence in accounting: Infinity leads the way

Takeaway: Infinity's workflows are built entirely on AI and automate large parts of your accounting. bexio was not developed with an AI-first approach and has no deeply integrated AI beyond simple receipt recognition in its mobile app.

Artificial intelligence plays an ever bigger role in accounting. Infinity is Switzerland's first AI accounting software and has integrated AI deeply across the entire platform. With features such as Live Accounting, smart booking suggestions and automatic receipt recognition, accounting is almost fully automated for users. Quotes can also be drafted faster thanks to Instant Fill with AI.

Infinity connects directly to your Swiss bank account and imports transactions in real time. For every transaction, the AI automatically suggests the right booking, and all you have to do is confirm it. This reduces errors, saves time and makes the system particularly attractive for non-accountants. Users report that their monthly bookkeeping workload drops from several hours to 15 to 30 minutes of reviewing and confirming.

bexio offers simple automatic receipt recognition in its mobile app bexio Go. It's a useful feature, but it isn't available on desktop or for email imports. Deeper AI integration is still missing. In Infinity, receipts are analysed regardless of the upload channel and automatically matched when a new bank transaction comes in, whether they arrive via mobile, desktop or email import.

Infinity keeps developing its AI, with the goal of automating accounting almost completely in the long run.

2. Ease of use: get started without prior knowledge

Takeaway: Infinity is intuitive, with no accounting knowledge required. bexio assumes basic know-how of debits and credits and is described by users as outdated in terms of UX.

bexio was developed more than 12 years ago, and its user interface has stayed largely the same since then. It includes a great many features and settings. Users who want to run their accounting in bexio need the corresponding financial accounting know-how. bexio offers training courses to avoid mistakes during set-up. Booking in particular requires an understanding of double-entry bookkeeping (debits and credits).

Infinity, by contrast, was built from the ground up with a special focus on beginners too, with great emphasis on design, usability and simplicity. Thanks to simple options, double-entry bookings can be created without understanding debits and credits, while Infinity takes care of everything necessary in the background. Keeping correct VAT accounts is also easy in Infinity without any prior knowledge.

Bookings are suggested by AI, and the user only has to confirm them. On top of that, the whole system was redesigned at the end of 2024 to improve usability significantly once again. The interface is modern, clear and logically structured – a clear win for both business owners doing their own books and fiduciaries.

In its independent comparison, treuhand-suche.ch writes in its product review:

“Working in Infinity feels simple and organic. [...] This makes managing company finances easier, especially for beginners with no accounting experience. The vendor's team has really made an effort to automate double-entry bookkeeping and to organise the preparation of annual reports so that users can avoid mistakes.”

3. Features: what do you really need?

Takeaway: bexio offers more breadth – Infinity focuses on the essentials.

Both bexio and Infinity can be used to keep legally compliant double-entry accounts. Unlike many other programs, both tools can therefore also be used by a GmbH or an AG.

bexio covers a very broad range of features, especially for larger SMEs: from payroll and inventory management to CRM, projects and time tracking, all the way to complete order processing. If you use all the modules, you benefit from a mature tool.

Infinity is aimed at new founders, self-employed people and companies with 25 employees or even more who are looking for an intuitive, automated solution. Core features such as AI accounting with a bank connection (Live Accounting), smart receipt processing (Live Capture) and billing for client projects, quotes and QR invoices are seamlessly integrated and easy to use.

infinity.swiss works differently from traditional software: manual reconciliation is replaced by smart workflows. Only special cases still need to be handled manually.

Infinity focuses its feature set on the needs of self-employed people and smaller companies:

  • AI accounting with Live Accounting (real-time bank connection)
  • Receipt recognition with AI (Live Capture)
  • Accounts payable
  • Interactive reports and dashboard
  • Invoicing (QR invoices and quotes)
  • Projects and time tracking for client projects
  • Simple CRM
  • Foreign currencies in accounting (automatic ESTV exchange rates)
  • Payroll (as an add-on for CHF 9 per employee per month plus VAT, more on this just below)
  • Public API (contacts and bookings, launched November 2025)

New: payroll directly in Infinity

A frequent criticism of Infinity used to be the lack of integrated payroll. That has changed. With Infinity Payroll, you can now run payroll entirely within Infinity, with no switching between systems and no manual exports.

The key features of Infinity Payroll:

  • Manage employees and salaries: record employees with their salary, workload and start and end dates
  • Deductions and social insurance: automated calculation of AHV, ALV, BVG, UVG and withholding tax to Swiss standards
  • Live Payroll: salaries are recalculated in real time, with no waiting for payroll runs and no manual recalculation
  • Payslips: clear payslips (PDF) for each employee with all salary components and deductions
  • Automatic posting: payroll entries are created automatically in Infinity, directly in your accounting, with no extra work

Infinity Payroll is also compatible with the current ELM 5.0 standard, so you can transmit data directly to the tax office and your social insurance providers. All processes run through a Swissdec-certified partner.

Price: CHF 9 per employee per month, excluding VAT, as an add-on to your existing Infinity subscription. Infinity Payroll is not designed for highly specialised industries such as staffing agencies.

For bexio users who have so far seen payroll as an argument in favour of bexio, this advantage largely disappears.

4. Product development: high momentum vs. pending modernisation

Takeaway: Infinity ships new features and AI innovations at a high pace – with a higher update frequency than any other provider on the market. bexio is struggling with an outdated software architecture.

bexio maintains its existing product, and when it comes to new features, it mainly launches extensions outside the core product today (such as the new fiduciary cockpit or bexio Pay).

bexio is developed, at least in part, externally by the outsourcing agency Holycode in Serbia. The core product has stayed largely the same for years. Today, the focus is on integrations and external extensions. In an official post in 2022, bexio wrote that its software architecture in its current form is hard to extend and that it had been working on modernising it for some time. Meanwhile, many new partner solutions keep being added to the marketplace.

Infinity develops everything in-house in Switzerland. Since 2024, well over 100 new features and improvements have been rolled out – including a comprehensive redesign, new AI features such as Live Capture, Live Payments and Instant Fill, and various performance optimisations. 2025 was packed with new features too: a reworked reconciliation workflow, an advanced anti-duplicate system for bank transactions, CSV and camt.053 imports, multilingual documents (DE/FR/IT/EN), a public API and numerous UI improvements for more productivity (Quick Commit, Multi-Edit, keyboard navigation). You'll find the full overview in the Infinity changelog.

The platform is continuously being developed, with a clear focus on AI, usability and efficiency.

5. Value for money: a direct comparison

Takeaway: bexio raised its prices significantly as of 1 March 2026. For the vast majority of self-employed people and micro-businesses, Infinity is considerably cheaper, with a more modern, AI-driven approach.

bexio's new pricing structure from March 2026

As of 1 March 2026, bexio renamed its plans and raised its prices. Existing customers pay the new prices from their next renewal date.

The price increase on the entry-level plan is around 16% compared with the previous Starter price (CHF 35). For many micro-businesses and freelancers who were using the cheapest tier anyway, that's a considerable surcharge without any significant new features – in fact with fewer features, because the bank connection has been removed from the entry-level plan and moved to higher tiers.

What this means

For a typical self-employed person or solo founder, Infinity is considerably cheaper:

  • Entry level: Infinity Start (CHF 29/month) vs. bexio Advanced (approx. CHF 52/month), around 80% cheaper
  • Recommended plan: Infinity Pro (CHF 45/month) vs. bexio Optima (approx. CHF 79/month), around 75% cheaper

That's CHF 276 to 408 saved per year, with a modern, AI-powered approach that also saves you hours of manual work.

Another important point: several users report that bexio charges extra for features you'd expect as standard at such a high base price, such as receipt processing. At Infinity, the AI features and Live Capture, with considerably higher AI receipt processing allowances, are included in the plan.

6. Integrations: bexio has the breadth, Infinity is catching up

Takeaway: bexio offers a mature integration ecosystem. Infinity launched a public API at the end of 2025 and is systematically expanding its offering.

bexio offers a broad ecosystem of integrations, including Kontera (supplier invoice entry), TRESIO (liquidity planning), Clockodo (time tracking) and many more. Most of them are accessed through separate user interfaces and are not embedded directly in bexio. Many of these integrations cost extra.

Infinity launched a public REST API in November 2025. At launch, it covers contacts and bookings. The API is documented with clear rate limits (max. 1,000 requests per hour), explicit error codes and standardised response formats, which points to a consistently developer-friendly philosophy.

Existing Infinity integrations:

  • swiDOC (audit-proof electronic archive)
  • AbaSalary (payroll entries uploaded directly into Infinity)
  • Further connections for banking, time tracking and e-commerce are planned

If you rely heavily on a broad integration ecosystem today, bexio remains the safer choice. For self-employed people and small businesses with standard requirements, Infinity already covers the most common use cases, and the API lets developers and technically savvy teams build their own connections.

7. Support: personal and close vs. a large support machine

Takeaway: Infinity stands out for its expertise, friendliness and personal touch. bexio offers more channels, including phone support, but some users criticise its customer support.

bexio offers support by phone, chat and email. With more than 100,000 customers, its support is often stretched. On Capterra, its rating is just 2.2 out of 5 stars. Several reports also describe a “call-first culture”: anyone who opens a bexio account or wants to cancel one often receives several calls aimed at influencing their decision. This is part of bexio's officially documented sales strategy.

Another repeatedly reported issue: when bexio recommends third-party partners for integrations and these then cause problems, support declines any responsibility. Customers are left at a dead end, with no one to turn to.

Infinity deliberately relies on scalable, fast support via chat. In 2024, the average response time was just 27 minutes. Customer satisfaction with support was 95.8%, an outstanding result. The in-app help centre is constantly being expanded and already covers many standard cases. Users value the personal, knowledgeable exchange, and direct contact with the founding team is possible too.

8. Conclusion: which software is right for you?

The choice between Infinity and bexio depends on your specific needs. Here's our honest assessment:

Infinity is the ideal choice if you...

  • are a freelancer, self-employed or run a small business
  • want to do your accounting without in-depth accounting knowledge
  • want to save time and reduce errors through automation
  • are looking for a cheaper, more modern alternative after bexio's steep price increase
  • value a clean data policy and hassle-free cancellation

bexio remains the better choice if you...

  • run a growing SME with complex requirements (inventory management, comprehensive order processing)
  • rely on a broad, mature integration ecosystem
  • need automated dunning runs
  • work in staffing (Infinity Payroll is not designed for this industry)
